Our Trip to the State's Hygienic Lab

 On Wednesday we went to the State Hygienic Lab. We went on an tour of the lab,

 In Microbiology we learned that they do tests about what the hospital sends them. Things they test are tuberculosis, salmonella, rabies, and other things.

  In Limnology we learned that they make sure the water is clean for the animals.

In Molecular Virology we learned that they test newborn babies for Bubble Boy Syndrome.

In Environmental Microbiology we learned that they test the city's water to make sure that it's clean with no bacteria. The way they do it is putting food in the water for the bacteria. If the water turns yellow it has bacteria in it, but if the water does not turn yellow it's safe. In DNA Extraction we learned to extract DNA from strawberries by squashing it all up and getting all the juice put into little containers then pouring cold alcohol on the squished strawberries. After that the DNA will settle on top of the strawberry. In Zombies we learned that if you don't wash your hands regularly you will turn into a zombie [ you will get sick].
